Bats are small animals, somehow misunderstood but very beneficial. They are not mice, they belong to the Chiroptera order and are the only mammals that can really fly.
There are many different types of bats, but in general, they can be classified in two groups: Microchiroptera and Megachiroptera.
Microchiroptera bats, not necessarily smaller, can be found all over the world, while megachiroptera bats use to live only in some parts of Europe, Asia and specially Africa. There are only three species of blood-sucking bats, which are called vampire bats, but they use to bite poultry or cattle...not humans!!! And maybe you should know that vampire bats are not going to attack you if you find them, they are not going to fly directly to your neck, and they are not going to inflict you a pair of small wounds with their sharp fangs!!!.
In fact, once they have selected their prey, they get near to it, jumping with thier fingers and walking with their rear legs (they are the only bats that can peform this kind of dance!!!), and then they make just one small cut using their incisives,so they can lick all the blood that is flowing from the wound. While they are licking the blood, they apply into the tissues, their saliva, full of anticoagulants to make their supper easier But on the other side, there are many nectarivorous, polinivorous, frugivorous and insectivorous bats, and there are even some bats that eat fish !!! In this way, the can be useful as natural pest controls, seed dispersers, land fertilizers, etc., and they are the most important maintainers of the biological equilibrium inside caves and near the roosting sites where they live.
